WiSSAP is a series of winter schools in speech and audio processing held since 2006. The 15th edition of WiSSAP is happening in January 2020 at IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The theme for WiSSAP 2020 is 'Machine Listening: making sense of sound'. What is machine listening? Humans have an amazing ability to make sense of their surroundings using sound. For example, we routinely deal with situations like the ringing of the telephone in the office, the honking of a horn while driving and the sound made by the contents of a shaken box. Machine listening deals with creating algorithms which can perform similar tasks, and more. With varied applications like self- driving cars, intelligent assistive devices and enhanced human-computer interaction, machine listening brings together various domains like audio signal processing and modelling, artificial intelligence, cognitive science and acoustics. Indian Institute of Technology Mandi IIT Mandi was established in the year 2009. Located along the Himalayan foothills in the Sivalik range, the IIT Mandi campus is situated amongst lush natural beauty.
