2-1President's message

Dear ISCA Members,

I am glad to announce that Prof. Hynek Hermansky was selected to receive, during Interspeech 2013, the 2013 ISCA Scientific Medal. Congratulations, Hynek!
After Portland 2012 we are moving our main focus to Lyon 2013. Interspeech 2013 just sent the first call for participation and you will find more details on the conference website (www.interspeech2013.org).
The future of Interspeech conferences seems to be very bright indeed. After Lyon 2013, Interspeech 2014 will take place in Singapore and Interspeech 2015 in Dresden. For 2016, we already received a very good 'declaration of intention' and a final decision on this will take place around March 2013.
As you know, 2013 is a 'board election year' for ISCA. This year, a large turnover is expected in the ISCA board as four of the current members, including me, are finishing their second term and can't be  candidates this time.  Please look at the election section in this ISCAPAD for more details.

With my best regards,

JF Bonastre,

President

2-3Election of members for the Board of ISCA
Announcement: Election of members for the Board of ISCA

The ISCA Board currently has 14 members from 11 countries (see full list below). Members are elected to the Board for a period of four years and no member may serve on the Board for more than two consecutive terms.  The following Board members will have served for two terms of four years in August: Isabel Trancoso, Jean-Francois Bonastre, David House, and Michael Picheny, and thus these four will be retiring.

According to the ISCA by-laws, elections to the Board will take place in April-May 2013.   We invite nominations from the ISCA membership.  Each nomination requires the support of three members of the Association and agreement from the candidate (e.g., by email).  The ISCA statutes specify a maximum of three Board members from any one country.  Each ISCA member will be asked to cast a anonymous ballot in the election, via a survey website.

Members elected to the Board will be expected to have one of the areas of responsibility listed below, to commit time to furthering the work of ISCA in their area, to attend the two-day Board meetings that take place at each annual INTERSPEECH conference and to participate in additional virtual meetings during the year (teleconferences).  All candidates should be aware of these obligations and commit themselves to fulfilling them before agreeing to be nominated.

The Board will accept nominations either from proposers or self-nominations, as long as indication of support is provided. Please send your nomination(s) to the ISCA Secretariat secretariat@isca-speech.org   BEFORE March 1st, 2013 (Friday) with the following information:
