2-1The President's best wishes

Dear ISCA members,
On the behalf of the ISCA board, I wish a happy new year for all of you.

We are very happy to welcome you in the new year with our new ISCA
member web portal. We are sure you will appreciate it.

The submission deadline for Interspeech 2012 is approaching: it is our
flagship event and we hope to see you all in Portland for this very
promising conference!

IS2012 will be also a good time to exchange our
views on ISCA activities and on the future of our association.  It
will be a good time to prepare for 2013, which will be a key year for ISCA
with the board elections (the board will be largely renewed in 2013).

We are also happy to start the 2012 year with good news for our SIG,
thanks to the Interspeech 2010 organizing committee.

Sincerely,
JF Bonastre

2-2Message to the SIG officers
Dear ISCA SIG officers,

We are very pleased to announce that the INTERSPEECH 2010 (Makuhari,
Japan) organizing committee donated 10,000 Euro for encouraging ISCA SIG
activities. We take the occasion of this message to renew the thanks of the ISCA
board to the IS 2010 organizing committee.

For each SIG, the support will be limited to a maximum of 2000 Euros, in
order to open this opportunity to a maximum number of SIGs.

Proposals should be sent to'special-interest-groups@isca-speech.org'. Each
proposal should include a description of the proposed activity. All kinds of
activities are eligible as long as they serve SIG activities (like scientific event
promotion) or SIG promotion (improve or create SIG archives or SIG material
 available for ISCA members).

This call for proposals is open on a continuous basis, and will end when the
donation is completely used. The ISCA board will proceed with the selection
of proposals, looking both at the objectives of the activities and at their
 financial aspects.

Jean-Francois Bonastre, ISCA President
Michel Picheny and Satoshi Nakamura, ISCA SIG Chairs

2-4New ISCA membership portal
ISCA announces new membership portal

In our continuing effort to better serve ISCA members, ISCA Web workgroup has worked on a new
membership portal for the past 3 months. We are glad to announce that the new membership portal
has been completed, which went online on 25 December 2011.
The new portal provides an one-stop online service for membership application, renewal, updating of
member profile, retrieval of password, and search of membership database. In particular, the new portal
features a comprehensive membership management system that allows all existing members, new members,
and past members to apply or renew membership online. It also comes with enhanced privacy settings that
allow individual members to personalize their profiles and to decide what to display in the membership listing.
Furthermore, we have also re-activated the resume posting service.
Please login to the new portal today to update your profile or to renew your membership.
Visit the ISCA membership portal at http://www.isca-speech.org/membership/.

2-6Call for nominations of ISCA distinguished lecturers.

The deadline for nominations for ISCA Distinguished Lecturers for the coming term is
January 15.
The process is very easy, requiring only 15mn work on your part to send in the name of
someone you think would be very good at this task, with a pointer to their website/cv, and a few
sentences on why you think they should be selected to give lectures (e.g., you've heard them give great
presentations, their field is one that needs more exposure in the field, etc.). please send this
information in email to dl_nominations@isca-speech.org .

The process is described at

http://www.isca-speech.org/iscaweb/index.phpoption=com_content&view=article&id=62&Itemid=75

Please take a few minutes to nominate the person you think would make a great DL and support a
very worthy outreach effort.

Thanks!
