2-1 | Message of President John H.L.Hansen
Dear ISCA members: Welcome to the next installment of the ISCApad for Sept. 2019! This edition has a number of updates from the community including upcoming meetings, job openings, theses, and announcements.
Interspeech-2019: [http://www.interspeech2019.org/] will take place shortly this month (September 15-19, 2019), in Graz, AUSTRIA, with the theme being: Crossroads of Speech and Language. This is our flagship conference and a chance to see the latest scientific and technical advancements in the field of speech communications. The Technical Program has been finalized, resulting a critical review of 1891 submitted papers, with 1335 reviewers who contributed to a total of 5897 reviews for this program! There are a number of excellent and innovative advancements this year with the website updated on both technical, tutorial and social events to take place. It is a good idea to obtain program through the INTERSPEECH-2019 conference app, which works for iOS and Android devices (and a simplified web browser version). The IS-2019 conference APP can be obtained from: http://scan.conference4me.psnc.pl/get/?config=interspeech2019 or you can go to the Google Play or Apple iOS App Stores and type 'interspeech2019'.
Again, this is the first time Interspeech will be held in Austria, and it promises to be a great opportunity to experience speech and language processing in a country where one of the first major published works on speech by Wolfgang von Kempelen originated on the speaking machine.
Supporting Diversity in Speech Communication: ISCA has launched a new area on the ISCA website to support diversity in speech communication. This is intended to offer opportunities for organizers of workshops and conferences to help expand diversity representation in terms of geographic, gender, and topic/specialization. Please visit the ISCA website to learn more! https://www.isca-speech.org/iscaweb/ (we will be highlighting some of the work of the ISCA Diversity Committee in the ISCA General Assembly at INTERSPEECH-2019).
ISCA Commitment to our Membership: ISCA is committed to promoting a safe, supportive, and professional experience for all peoples to work and contribute to advancing the field of speech communications. To this end, the ISCA Board is currently developing and expanding several documents to articulate our support: (1) Code-of-Ethics for Authors (e.g., addressing data issues, (self-)plagiarism, copyright, human right issues), as well as . (2) Code-of-Conduct for Conference Attendees (e.g., addressing harassment and discrimination based on on gender, race, religion, etc.) If you have any suggestions, please contact us.
As always, we welcome feedback and input from the ISCA community – if you have suggestions for our society or want to be involved, please let us know!
We look forward to your participation in ISCA and Interspeech-2019!
John H.L. Hansen, ISCA President

Dear registered Participants and Exhibitors, This is the last email you receive before INTERSPEECH 2019 starts, it is a long mail but it contains a wealth of useful information, so we strongly recommend to read it carefully so as to optimize your conference experience! 1. Before leaving home - make your online purchase of a weekly pass @ 15.20 EUR for public transport in Graz and print it! Details are given here. If you bring the printed ticket with you, even the trip from the airport to the city centre will be included. 2. Speaking of which - be smart and register on Sunday already, even if you do not attend a tutorial! Avoid the Monday morning queues, the desk will be held open on Sunday from 8:00 to 18:00! General registration desk opening times can be found here. Be sure to bring your registration and payment confirmation when picking up your badge and other conference materials. We have printed different faces of Austrian scientists on the badge to encode the various options you have selected, like Printed Abstract Book, Admission to Tutorials, Social Events etc. So no additional tickets - but it is important that you always keep your badge visible to get access to all included services! 3. We have received tremendous support from our sponsoring partners which has allowed us to keep registration fees lower than in past years while adding a lot of value for you. We take this opportunity to thank our sponsoring partners for their generosity and we believe that many of you will be interested to enrich their conference experience by interacting directly with them.
