2-1 | A message from Haizhou Li, ISCA President
Dear ISCA Members,
Welcome to the May edition of ISCApad!
ISCA Board had a partial board meeting at ICASSP 2016 Shanghai in March 2016. The Board discussed and addressed matters arising from Board Meetings, AGM, and feedback from the membership, which included the revision of Bylaws, the establishment of INTERSPEECH Financial Risk Fund, and the formation of ISCA Technical Committee, among others.
I am also glad to share with you that the ISCA Board has just concluded the selection of the winner of ISCA Medal for Scientific Achievements 2016 and ISCA Fellows for 2016, that will be announced at INTERSPEECH 2016. ISCA would like to congratulate Professors Hiroya Fujisaki and Valerie Hazan for being named as the ISCA Distinguished Lecturers 2016-2017.
Finally, I would like to inform the membership that INTERSPEECH 2016 is now open for conference registration. You are encouraged to renew your ISCA Membership early at the ISCA membership portal in order to take advntage of the benefits for reduced INTERSPEECH registration fees for members. As a note, if you renew your membership together with INTERSPEECH registration, you will be paying an extra handling fee (so avoid this by directly renewing your membership, and the registering!).
We look forward to seeing you all in San Francisco!
Haizhou Li, ISCA President

2-2 | Grants for students
ISCA wants to support and encourage students and young researchers by providing grants for attending conferences, and by recognizing good research. At each INTERSPEECH, an ISCA award is given to the 3 best student papers presented at the conference, based on anonymous review of the papers and the presentation at the conference. ISCA also financially supports students and young scientists by providing a limited number of grants for young authors with accepted papers at INTERSPEECH and ISCA supported workshops. The ISCA board member responsible for Grants and Awards is Torbjørn Svendsen.
