1 PhD/Postdoctoral position in DFG-funded CRC “Information Density and Linguistic Encoding” (SFB 1102), Saarland University, Saarbruecken, Germany

The DFG-funded CRC “Information Density and Linguistic Encoding” is pleased to invite applications for a PhD/post-doctoral position within the project 'B1: Information Density and Scientific Literacy in English', start date as soon as possible. If not filled until the Oct 31, later applications will be considered until the position is filled.

SFB1102, B1.A: Postdoctoral researcher or PhD student, computational linguist or computer science

A central methodological aspect of the project is to train and apply language models as well as data mining and other machine learning techniques to investigate the diachronic linguistic development of English scientific writing (from 17th century to present). The successful candidate will work on adapting, modifying and extending standard techniques from language modeling and machine learning to incorporate linguistically motivated and interpretable features.

Requirements: The successful candidate should have a PhD/Master's in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related discipline with a strong background in language modeling and machine learning (especially data mining). Good programming skills and knowledge of linguistics are strong assets. Previous shared work with linguists is desirable. A good command of English is mandatory. Working knowledge of German is desirable.

The appointments will be made on the German TV-L E13 scale (65% for PhD student, 100%
for postdoctoral researcher; see also
