Dear ISCA Members,
INTERSPEECH 2012 in Portland is now ready for boarding! The Organizing team and the
Technical Program Committee prepared very nice scientific and social programs.
The program includes also several events organized by our very active Student Advisory Committee.
This year, ISCA worked hard, in collaboration with the INTERSPEECH organizing team, in order
to reduce the registration fees. ISCA decided to take an additional part of the financial risk, up to
50K Euros. Thanks to all these efforts, INTERSPEECH 2012 registration fees decreased
significantly compared to previous editions, particularly for the students. I want to thank here
the organization team, the TPC members and the reviewers for their great work. In addition to
the conference itself, INTERSPEECH offers the best time for discussions concerning ISCA activities
and the future. ISCA is our association and the board needs your proposals and feedback. This year,
we will save more time for discussion (around these topics) during our ISCA General Assembly,
on Tuesday evening. The General Assembly is a short but very important event: it is the only
occasion we have to encourage all the volunteers implicated in ISCA activities and to help them,
to help us, to drive ISCA activities in the best direction for all our comunauty. Please note this
slot in your agenda!!! I am taking the occasion of this traditional President message to
congratulate the 10 Best student papers finalists. The details will be published by the
INTERSPEECH organizers. The winners will be selected during the conference. I want to thank
the ISCA committee in charge of these awards and more particularly Alan W. Black, the
ISCA Awards Coordinator. I wish you all a very successful conference.
Jean-François Bonastre
ISCA President
