Applications are invited for an anticipated postdoctoral position at Northwestern University in the area of computational modeling of the lexicon in many different languages. The postdoctoral fellow will work with linguistics professor Janet Pierrehumbert as a member of an interdisciplinary team that includes outstanding computer scientists and electrical engineers at four other American research institutions. The Northwestern component of the collaborative project will focus on novel methods for bootstrapping lexical networks from sparse statistical samples. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D in computational linguistics, EECS, applied mathematics, or physics, and the demonstrated ability to create and document robust software. Familiarity with C, Python and Unix/Linux environments are a plus.
Negotiable start date in early 2012. Competitive salary scale comparable to postdoctoral positions in computer science. Initial appointment for one year with renewal subject to performance and availability of funding.
