So long, Fred...

Dear Members,

Last September 14th, Fred Jelinek passed away. Our community has lost a giant. He made the major step, never made equal till now in speech recognition. All researchers who  worked with him  keep an impressive memory of his strong personality and scientific strictness. DARPA summer schools were an opportunity for many of us to collaborate more directly with him and his team at Johns Hopkins University: they were high times of the speech scientific life for many years. ISCA president Isabel Trancoso wrote a short message expressing the mourning of our community. Fred's presence will hover above Interspeech 2010.

As in the past, please keep sending your conference announcements, job oppotunities, new book issues, call for papers for journals, confernces, workshops,...at iscapad@isca-speech.org.  ISCApad is updated every month. Do not forget to look at ISCAweb http://www.isca-speech.org/iscaweb/iscapad to remain well informed about  the speech community life.
